# Ask ChatGPT about your business.

Connect Lighthouse Local to ChatGPT and ask it about your business in plain words, like which competitors show up more than you. Setup takes about five minutes. You'll need a paid ChatGPT plan (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu).

## What do I need?

You need three things.

- Your Lighthouse Local login.
- A ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu plan, and a web browser. ChatGPT sets this up at chatgpt.com.
- Your connection link from [Settings > AI Assistants](https://app.lighthouselocal.ai/account/settings/ai-assistants?utm_source=lighthouselocal&utm_medium=marketing-site&utm_campaign=connect-chatgpt&utm_content=connect) in Lighthouse Local.

## How do I connect it?

It takes five steps.

1. At chatgpt.com in a browser, open Settings > Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
2. Go to Plugins, click the plus button, and create a developer-mode app.
3. Paste your connection link when it asks for the server URL, and choose OAuth as the sign-in option.
4. Sign in with your Lighthouse Local login.
5. In a chat, open the plus menu, choose Developer mode, and select the app you just added.

## What can I ask?

Ask in plain words. Here are a few to start with.

- "Does ChatGPT recommend my business when people search for what I do?"
- "What did ChatGPT say about my business yesterday?"
- "Which competitors show up more than I do?"
- "Which websites does AI trust instead of mine?"
- "What should I fix first on my website?"

## What if it doesn't work?

Most problems have a quick fix.

- It asks you to pick an organization. Pick the one with the sites you want ChatGPT to see. To switch later, disconnect and connect again.
- ChatGPT can't find your Lighthouse Local data. In the chat, open the plus menu, choose Developer mode, and check that the app is selected. If it still can't, disconnect it in ChatGPT's settings, then connect again with your connection link.
- Sign-in keeps failing. Check that your ChatGPT plan is Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu. On a work account, ask your admin to allow custom connectors.
- ChatGPT calls this developer mode. OpenAI says developer mode is meant for people who can safely test apps, because a connection that can change data could cause damage if the assistant makes a mistake. Lighthouse Local's connection only reads your data, so your assistant can look at your account and can't change it.
- Still stuck? Email [support@lighthouselocal.ai](mailto:support@lighthouselocal.ai) with the assistant you're using and what you see.

## Is my data safe?

Yes. ChatGPT can read your Lighthouse Local data but can never change it.

- It only sees the sites in the organization you sign in with.
- It uses your normal Lighthouse Local login, so there's no new password to manage.
- You can disconnect it any time from ChatGPT's settings.
